Jon Batiste

Why see Jon Batiste?

uneasy tour

The recipient of a breathtaking 11 2022 Grammy Award nominations and four wins, including Album of the Year, and four more noms for 2023, Jon Batiste is one incredible musician. You might recognize him from his tenure as Stephen Colbert's magnanimous bandleader or have heard his Oscar-winning score for Pixar's Soul (with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross), or from enjoying his March 2021 record, We Are, or even with one of his genre-straddling collaborations with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Prince, Willy Nelson and more.

What we're saying is the time has come for the socially conscious, eclectic artist, pianist, singer, and composer. Catch him as he steps into the spotlight on his first ever headlining tour in 2024, titled the 'Uneasy Tour: Purifying the Airwaves for the People', in support of his newest record, World Music Live.

With such credentials, a Jon Batiste concert is not to be a simple affair, except a philosophical and intriguing adventure instead, as Batiste draws on myriad influences, including indigenous folk, pop, R&B, and many more, to present his defiant and socially conscious vision of Jazz 2.0.

Strange but brilliant

My wife thinks this is all in my head, and it may be that few in the audience share this interpretation. At the beginning of the show with the song “Master Power”, Jon seemed to be reacting to some kind of racial vibe he was picking up from the crowd. The performance was all over the place as he (ironically it seemed to me) mimicked a Chuck Berry shuffle and otherwise ran through some stereotypical historical black routines, singing Sunny Side of the Street, Ain’t no Sunshine, etc. It was as if he was both pandering to and making fun of the bougie boomer dominated audience, most of whom did not detect the irony. About a third of the way into the show he appeared to get his bearings and began the sow in earnest singing his own tunes. The rest of the show was great, but even to the end I never felt like he got completely comfortable. The sort of encore with Jewel sing Summertime was very good. Strange show with moments of brilliance. ... Read more

Modern day Mozart!! Look out world!!!

I was blown away with the concert! Is there an instrument he cannot play?! Loved the drum duet! It is not often at a live concert that the “Live” voice is better than the recording. Pitch perfect! And his energy and smile. Wow!! Had goose bumps from beginning to end. Cannot wait to watch his journey unfold.. He has just begun!!! ... Read more
